'Més que Murs' street art festival launches its 11th edition in Sagunto
Sagunto's urban art festival opens on 22 May with murals, graffiti, rap music and a round table, running until 31 May with local and international artists.
Under the theme 'The tomorrow we already were', the 11th edition of 'Més que Murs' (More Than Walls) kicked off on Friday 22 May at the Alameda de Puerto de Sagunto. The City Council's Youth and Childhood Department opened proceedings with graffiti work by the duo Hemecé Bichos and a rap performance by Mushkila, a local artist from the municipality.
For ten days — through 31 May — creators from various countries will leave their mark on building facades and public corners across the city. Among the most notable guests is Rafat, from Millau in southern France, whose appearance celebrates the 20th anniversary of the twin-city partnership between Sagunto and that Occitan town of around 22,000 residents, internationally renowned for the Millau Viaduct — the world's highest cable-stayed bridge deck, engineered by Norman Foster.
On Saturday 23 May, a discussion panel at the Casal Jove youth centre in Puerto de Sagunto will accompany the launch of the book 'Street Art en Femenino'. The closing day, 30 May, brings together rap and DJ workshops alongside skateboarding and urban dance sessions. Sagunto City Council describes the initiative as turning the city into a vast open canvas for young talent.
